A Big Tech szabályozásért kiált?

https://about.fb.com/news/2020/02/big-tech-needs-more-regulation/ Mr Trump wants to scrap a provision seen as a bulwark of free speech on the internet, section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act, which states that no social media platform “shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider”. Reforming the law has become one of the very few goals that Republicans and Democrats share, although for very different reasons. Republicans, claiming anti-conservative bias, want less “censorship”. Democrats, alarmed at Trump’s ability to use social media bullhorns to spread lies and inflame millions of his followers, want more. The president-elect has called for an overhaul of the law. Farid said last week’s events will finally get reform over the line after years of fruitless debate. “It’s the straw that breaks the camel’s back,” he said. Donald Trump Jr tweeted on Friday: “So the ayatollah, and numerous other dictatorial regimes can have Twitter accounts with no issue despite threatening genocide to entire countries and killing homosexuals etc ... but The President of the United States should be permanently suspended. Mao would be proud.” There is one other, less talked-about aspect to this story: the outgoing president just lost a huge business opportunity. Unlike Barack Obama, Trump did not use the official @POTUS Twitter handle once he took office. (After his ban last week, the president finally did try to use that account. Twitter deleted his tweets.) Trump had leveraged the prominence of his office to build a huge — and highly valuable — audience through his @realDonaldTrump account, which he expected to take with him after he left the White House. Imagine the sponsored tweets we’ll now never get to see! The man who brought us Trump Steaks, Trump University, Trump Ice (water) and Trump Vodka surely had big plans. Alas. What is inarguable is that Trump was a consequential president. And in his final days in office, he may have added another notch to his complicated legacy: bringing the curtain down on the first phase of our social media age. Farid said: “I think 10 years from now, we will look back and say, ‘That was ridiculous the way we allowed Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey and the like to just run absolutely roughshod over not just America, but the entire world.’”
